Insomnia is a common sleep sickness that effects
many people around the world. But the effects
brought about by this disorder can be downright
punishing.

Have you ever experienced the frustration of looking
repeatedly at your clock while you restlessly moving
around in your bed. It's mental and emotional agony
to say the least. The tension builds up to its peak
when you see the sunrise, and you realize you have a
very full day on a very empty tank.

There are answers. There are some very practical
things you can do today that can help. Here are some
effective tips to help you back on track with healthy
sleep habits
again..

1) Wake up and go to bed at the same time everyday,
even on the weekends. Some insomniacs tend to sleep
at any time of the day to catch up on sleep deprivation
during the night. This is one the biggest mistakes
you can make. It throws off your body clock and in fact
worsens your insomnia. If you have difficulty sleeping,
make sure you wake the next morning at your usual same
time. Avoid sleeping in.

2) Avoid eating at least 4 hours before you go to bed.
In the event you missed dinner and need nourishment,
try something light like crackers or small snack size portion.
But don't indulge in an "eat-all-you-can" feast right before
bedtime. Your  body will have a difficult time digesting it
and you'll experience restlessness and discomfort while
you sleep.

3) Avoid caffeine or alcohol. Caffeine can obstruct your
ability to sleep. Alcohol can make you drowsy and cause
you to awake in the middle of the night causing side effects
that will hinder your continuous sleep.

4) Relax and stay fit. Avoid having a stressful
lifestyle. Exercise daily to release tension.
Engage in breathing exercises to relax your body.
Most important, don't take your problems or
emotional baggage to sleep with you. Put it to bed.
You'll be in far better shape to tackle your
dilemma much more effectively in the morning after
a restful sleep.

5) Never force yourself to sleep. Sleep comes
best if you are in a relaxed and comfortable
state. Just lie down, relax, and take your
mind off everything. Quiet your mind and
sleep will come.
