One thing is for certain. It won't always be a smooth
ride to get to where your want to go. You will
encounter obstacles. In fact you can pretty much
count on them in all areas of your life. But is the
glass half full or empty? After reading this, you'll
change how you look at and react to obstacles you
encounter. In fact, you may even welcome them.
What do these 4 Great Individuals have in common?
Lance Armstrong
Jackie Robinson
Sally Ride
Dr. John Pemberton
Lance Armstrong survived cancer to make the Tour de
France his personal showcase. After being
diagnosed in 1996, Lance recovered and went on to
win an astounding 7 consecutive Titles from
1999-2005. Through the formation of the Lance
Armstrong Foundation
http://www.livestrong.org millions
are raised each year for cancer research.
In 1947, Jackie Robinson broke the color barrier in
baseball. Amid racial protest and controversy, he
won the National League MVP in 1949 with the
Brooklyn Dodgers batting .342 and stealing 37 bases.
He maintained a Lifetime batting average of .311 and
stole home an amazing 19 times. Jackie Robinson
paved the way for many great ballplayers to follow
including Willie Mays, Hank Aaron, Satchel Paige,
Frank Robinson, Cito Gaston and many more.
Sally Ride broke the gender barrier in a male
dominant NASA. She was selected out of 7000 men and
1000 women for the training program in 1978 and
became the first women astronaut in space in 1983.
Dr. John Pemberton was a pharmacist in 1886 Atlanta.
He toiled and tinkered with a formula that was a
nerve tonic, stimulant and headache remedy and
created the most popular drink in the world today,
Coca Cola.
They were all faced with insurmountable obstacles and
overcame them to achieve greatness.
Any time you're faced with obstacles in the future,
you should be energized and wired because this is
where all the biggest and best opportunities are to
be found. Under the rocks, walls, barriers and any
other impedance you can think of. Now what everyone
fails to overlook is that this is where 100's,
1000,s before you were halted in their tracks, about
faced and sent back beaten.
That means that if you overcome this obstacle, two
things will happen. First, you will be in virgin
territory or in a place only a very few have been
able to reap the rewards of and believe me, the
rewards can be beyond your wildest dreams .
Second, Just as the 99.9% of those before quit when
they reached that point, the 99.9% after them will
also quit there. Once you truly understand the power
behind what I just said, just consider what that can
mean as you move ahead and encounter other obstacles
along your path.
Here are 5 essentials to staying persistent and
focused on the task at hand.
1. First and foremost: " Think positive." This
means: "Do not quit." Especially when one is
midway in working for a goal, there should be
no room for quitting. To quit is tantamount to
going back to the starting line of goal
accomplishment. That is time, energy, money,
and a whole lot of things wasted and lost. It
is more costly to quit than to find a solution
to the problem, not to mention the frustration
one feels.
2. Keep a clear, open, and tense-free mind, open
and receptive to new ideas and concepts. Focus
and concentrate. Think laterally by applying
successful resolve that works in other areas and
industries. Make the necessary adjustments and
apply it to your specific need. Stay open to
all options (even unconventional ones) to
eliminate the obstacle.
3. Persist and persevere. Exhaust every
possibility even to the point of trial and
error (if doubtful), just to test a solution to
correct the problem.
4. Simulate. Try to visualize in your mind a
possible solution to get past the obstacle.
5. Seek help people who are skilled in the area(s)
you require help. They may be able to help. In
some cases, Their suggestions might not
necessarily be the right or exact ones, but
they may lead you to new avenues and trigger
new ideas that guide you to the best
solutions.
Remember, to get to the opportunities with huge
upside, you have to go where few if any have gone
before you. Now, move ahead with the mindset that
Obstacles are just opportunities in disguise.
