"MAKING EYE CONTACT"
Making eye contact is one of the most important
aspects
of how we communicate and is critical in making the
right impression when we meet people for the very first
time.
Believe it or not, we establish our first impressions
of others within the first few seconds of meeting.
Maintaining good eye contact shows respect and interest in
what they have to say.
Normally, we tend to maintain eye contact for around 60-70%
of the time. Any longer and you run the risk of making
the other person feel self conscious or uncomfortable.
To little and you may be perceived as avoiding eye contact.
You want to convey a feeling of comfort and genuine
warmth in your company, any more eye contact than this and
you can be perceived as too intense, any less and you give
off a sense of disinterest in them or what they have to say.
Please keep in mind that these rules can change depending
on where you are in the world and the wide variety of
cultural differences that exist.
It's important to be
respectful of where you are and make the necessary adjustment to
harmonize your body language & behavior to different environments.
